Mini Reviews
One line reviews and ratings of my media consumption habits.
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Solid shooter with a nauseating framerate, gorgeous visuals and ethereal music.
Super Mario Galaxy
Packed with cuteness and awesome refreshing ideas. Perfect gameplay. They simply did it again.
Untrue
I never got into Burial's debut album but this one is really haunting me... dark and deep material!
Art School Confidential
I wish this was shown to every freshman in Art School. So many truths in there!
Urban Justice
Seagal is back (almost) in full effect. The presence of Danny "Machete" Trejo is a major plus, so is the insane amount of (mother)fuck(er), bitch and shit per minute.
The Shield Season 1 - 6
Simply amazing. This kicks ass from the first to the last second. Season 5 was definitely the best.
Out Of The Woods
There is still something elegant in this (slightly overproduced) music but I do really miss the dandy jazz arrangements of her 80ies stuff
This Is England
Yes, it's possible to make entertaining movies about social issues in Maggie's England. Impressive acting all the way!
Sunshine
Is it me or all sci-fi movies happening in outer space follow the same patterns and/or use similar plot devices? This one looks very similar to Event Horizon...
Grindhouse
30 years of B-movies packed in a double feature. I prefered Planet Terror to Death Proof but it's all good stuff. Those fake trailers! I can't wait to see the full length version of Machete.
Elementarteilchen
The book was so dazzling that its überneurotic, ultra-conscious characters make this bad movie actually watchable, sometimes even enjoyable.
Three Songs EP
A bittersweet, ethereal melancholic gem carefully crafted by Sara Lov, frontwoman of the awesome LA band The Devics.
Dexter
Clean visuals and a bunch of pretty well developed and interesting characters, too bad the vilain was actually so lame.
Memories of The Future
It took me some time to actually get into it but suddenly everything is obvious and I feel now like I had a taste of some distant decade I'll never live long enough to see...
Heroes
The whole season was not bad at all. It even brought back that chilly feeling I had watching X-Files back in the days... but what was that for a crappy rushed finale?
24 Day 6
No matter what they say, Jack is still my man. Who would have thought he would be able to break his own bodycount on this season? Let's hope they keep the One Man Army spirit alive next season!
One, Two, Three
That was great! Lovely set design and clever lines. Reminded me of the golden age of hyperactive french comedies with Louis de Funès & co.
The A-Team: The Final Season
Without any doubt the worst season. General Stockwell sucks. Are those post mission trophy girls real hookers?!? Bring me back the A-Team hitting the side roads in rural California!
Soundboy's Ashes Get Chopped Out And Snorted
Can the sound get any minimalistically darker than that? Sick release.
The Emperor's New Clothes
Not that I'm still into drum & bass that much but a Klute LP is always worth listening to. Nice and deep vibe.
Attack Force
Seagal is still going down a slope which seems endless. In this post 24, post X-men and post Blade Romanian production, a desperately overweight and terribly dubbed Steven only scares himself...
The World Is Gone
South London's vivid dubstep sound collides with electronica and rock. It's a bit like a new Massive Attack for the 21st century. For those who love bass and deep, twisted breaks.
Heroes
Very cartoonish but so entertaining! Some minor annoyances like the obviousness of the comic relief role of the those japanese and the terrible voiceover at the beginning of each episode.
Idiocracy
Very funny portrayal of a NASCARed society, 500 years from now. For absurd humor lovers only.
Call of Duty 3
There's some very serious rampage going on in this one! Good usage of the Wiimote, especially as a melee weapon proxy.
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz
If there was only one game meant to be played with the Wiimote, this is it. Exciting new main game levels and hysterical minigames (love paper sumo and rope jumping)
Red Steel
I was disappointed at first but once you get used to the controls, this is a fantastic interactive one-man army b-movie.
Children of Men
Holy cow! This masterpiece is taking the dystopian atmosphere up to the next level. This could well be the most intense rendition of our doomed future since Blade Runner. The bar has been raised. Fucking brilliant stuff.
Enfermés Dehors
Cartoonesque tale of glue-sniffing bums hanging out in an anonymous suburban area lost somewhere in declining France. Not exactly a masterpiece but funny here and there.
Prison Break Season 1
I just ruined my weekend on this thing. I'm totally hooked. If I don't get season 2 very soon, I'm gonna have to enter rehab!
Der Untergang
Impressive rendition of the last days of a sick mind. Great cast. But I still don't get all the fuss about the actual content of this movie.
The Producers
Fantastic parody set in Broadway's golden age. The story of the making of a neonazi & gay musical written by Mel Brooks just can't be bad!
Aeon Flux
Boring action, cheesy and overdesigned locations. All visual elements that are not cliché are blatant minority report rip offs.
Bunker Paradise
Liberski ends up doing the same kind of arty-farty stuff he was mocking with the Snuls. The cheap techno music heard through out the film is really painful.
Skyggen
If you thought you had seen them all after Hackers, The Lawnmower Man or Johnny Mnemonic then you may want to watch the self-entitled “danish Blade Runner”. All cyberpunk clichés packed with box gloves into a low budget flick. So bad It's good!
Chaos
An average B-movie with the usual plot twists and ice cool literate badman. Some idea in the initial bank robbery were obviously ripped from Spike Lee's Inside Man. Jason Statham's american accent still sucks.
Inside Man
Half decent hostage situation movie. Some inconsistencies but, as usual, Denzel saves the day.
United 93
Paul Greengrass made it. This is one of the most thrilling disaster movie I've been given to see. Although we all know the tragic outcome, Hope is present until the very last second. Impossibly amazing!
Kalawanji / Surgery
A couple of bad ass heavy dubsteppers from newcomer Kromestar. The man also delivered a big mix at the latest DMZ.
Lego Star Wars
The 3 best things there were when I was a kid in a single package : a Star Wars video game with Lego bricks. Insanely cool animation and brick tricks!
Me and You and Everyone We Know
A touching little story, sweet and smooth as your favorite childhood flannel pajama. Lovely!
Clumsy
Very cute graphic novel telling the simple, fragmented, story of two little humans loving each other.
Les Chevaliers du Ciel
It took a mere 20 years for a decaying France to produce an incredibly lame mashup of Top Gun and Iron Eagle. Not that I had any expectations but this is the worst thing I've seen for a very long time.
Palais Royal!
Decently funny synthesis of the would-be significant life of random european monarchs. Only for people who enjoy Valérie Lemercier's humor.
Round Three
A smashing joint release from the Storming camp. Filthy breaks, over the top bass business. Reminds the early jungle days, only much darker.
Mud / Rufage
Every new Loefah release gets darker in tone and lower in frequency. Raw 909 riddims backed with chest annihilating bass. Wicked.
V for Vendetta
Decent dystopian atmosphere but the overall tempo might be a bit too slow... Fake cockney accent can be quite painful sometimes.
Sur les Cimes du Désespoir
Cioran's first and, by far, most lucid and accessible essay. The ultimate hope shattering experience. This book is nothing but a deadly weapon.
Alan Turing
The style and the skills of the author don't do justice to Turing's genius and tormented life. Do not expect any scientific accuracy here.
Napoleon Dynamite
Hilarious and surreal comedy about the private and social life of an Idahoan nerd. Lots of funny details everywhere!
Cioran et Compagnie
A pretty disapointing book in which the author never even gets close the Master. There's not that much about Cioran in there, only useless personal digressions...
Seinfeld - Season 1 to 6
Fifteen years later and still the best sitcom on this planet... Go Costanza! Go!
A History of Violence
I've never seen anything better coming from Cronenberg, this is a masterpiece. Every single second of footage is pure american delight. Awesome casting.
Caché
Haneke has a real talent to make daily life look oppressing and uncomfortable... I'm not a big fan of Auteuil's performance, though.
Left Behind: World at War
Insane apocraplyptic Christian movie where the director of some sort of UN style organization tries to kill god's sons with poisoned Bibles. Fortunately enough, The Jeez has got the President's back as well as some miracles up his sleeve... wicked!
Lords of Dogtown
Only worth a look if you like the atmosphere of Venice, CA... The story is so cheesy that I'm gonna have now to check Stacy Peralta's own documentary to get the actual facts...
Mission: Impossible III
If you're into over-the-top actioners where "the plan comes together" (Ocean's 11 comes to mind), this one will make you wet your pants
luke.envoy / Gamma
Now this is a sick release! This is what happens Vex'd meets the Special Op's crew. This is dark, twisted, powerful. Wicked production.
La Moustache
Nothing exceptional in here except good acting but this movie manages to beat your average french movie of the last 5 years.
Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit
Cute giant vegetables and brainwashed rabbits. Need I say more?
United State of Electronica
This is over the top, ultrapositive and wildly euphoric pop music! The bastard child of The KLF, Daft Punk and Bran Van 3000. Boy I needed that!
Ultranova
Disapointingly slow and arty farty. Looks like a Dardenne brothers movie aimed at the Walloon middle class. Bouli should look back at his Snuls days...
Cool as Ice
Even worst than my best hope. V-Ice and his homeboys nails one of the more psychedelic flick of the last decade. Warning: this movie features some seriously terrible outfits.
Black Dawn
Couldn't expect much from the sequel of a direct to video release in which a desperately overweight Seagal is not even able to perform his own stunts anymore...
Cineastes a Tout Prix
Forget the Dardenne brothers and their social-depressive cheese. Here's a wonderful documentary about pure Belgian grassroot cinema.
Paycheck
John Who has lost it and signs one of the worst flick in the decade. Thurman looks bored and Affleck surely knows how to ruin a movie...
A Dirty Shame
Completely surreal biblical and filthy story about a bunch of sexaholics in suburban Baltimore. John Waters at his best.
Rock Swings
Las Vegas veteran Paul Anka covers some pop/rock tunes of my sweet teenage years, the good old crooner way. Brilliant arrangements!
Akoibon
Edouard Baer's mind has never been so twisted. Can't get enough of all this refreshing nonsense.
Robots
Nice retrofuturistic design but still far from Pixar storywise... not to mention a certain kind of vulgarity
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
A psychedelic, metaphysical trip through out the galaxy. I dig that depressive Robot.
The Marksman
Keywords: Wesley Snipes, Tchetchnya, Nuclear Plant, Army Rangers. Reuses some Top Gun footage.
La Boite Noire des Snuls
The definition of Belgian humor. Probably not funny if live more than 25km far from Brussels...
War of The Worlds
First 80% of the film are amazing, awesome scenes of suburban terror. Just ignore the cheesy ending.
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland
So far not so good. A few gameplay additions but graphics are not as good as THUG 1 & 2.
Batman Begins
Impressive renditition of technogoth Gotham. This Batman is the most humane superhero ever put on film. Rationality and excitement all the way!
Kung Fu Hustle
Simply the most inspired, impressive and insanely stylish movie I've seen for ages. Ranma 1/2 meets Pulp Fiction. Brilliant!
Clementine
Terrible low-budget korean movie in which Seagal manages to get his ass handed to him by a drunk korean during his 5 minutes of total air time . Bad movie with critically high annoying crying kid factor.
Last Days
Van Sant may have some points here and there but it looks to me like an overintellectualization of an individual's own pain
Saturn 3
I've seen bad movies but this is certainly one of the worst ever made. As hectic as if Alien had been played by snails.
Natural City
Dubbed as the Korean Blade Runner, this movie is actually full of cheesy effects and models. Storyline is a mashup of the usual cyberpunk cliches.
Belly of The Beast
Best Seagal flick in recent history. Plot is as solid as one could expect and a bunch of radical moves can be spotted here and there.
Out For A Kill
Worst and cheapest Seagal flick ever. Terrible voice over acting and nonsensical plot.
Banlieue 13
Literaly (and dangerously) stupid rip off of Korean action movies targeted at gangs of french pothead teens
Assault on Precinct 13
Uninspired SWAT-packed siege movie. Somebody keep those frenchies away from Hollywood please...
Slimzee, Dogzilla & Devilin @ Rinse FM
Serious grime from the big boss! Massive intro, supercharged MCing!
Forensics Dubstep Mix #9
Proper dark and grimey broken rythms, feel London's underground heartbeat...
American Beauty
Better late than never... A funny mix between Office Space and Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me
Pour Les Filles (Street Tape Vol. 1)
Cuizinier mashes up tracks from the last decade. This rogue mixtape is the best french hiphop money can buy.
Detention
Artificially intricate plot and lousy action backed with wooden actors. Pure canadian delight.
