I just played around with AbiWord, an open source word processor for Windows and UNIX. This software rocks! Imagine a free Word without all the useless annoying features. And, yes, this 8 megabytes marvel has on-the-fly spellchecking and handles .doc files. Give it a try!

The GStreamer project is an open source effort to build a flexible media streaming framework. It looks like a very nice plug-in based architecture which is well evolving. Unfortunately I'm quite sure it's the kind of software which is almost impossible to rebuild because of the astronomical amount of library dependencies needed for each and every plug-in...

Talking of embedded Linux... I just ran into some screenshots of the QT-powered Sharp Zaurus Linux PDA. I'm not a PDA addict and I don't plan to buy one but i just wonder how it feels to have UNIX shell in your pocket...
